Craft Room Storage Ideas

Whether you are a hobbyist, a professional, or you simply enjoy doing crafts in your spare time, sooner or later you need additional space to house all your tools, materials and implements and that is where you will need craft room storage ideas. When this happens, like many of us, you recognize the need for additional space, storage and organization. This in turn enables you to conduct your hobby or favorite pastime with greater efficiency and increased comfort.

You may already have some storage ideas in mind. And, what could be better than a plan to launch those ideas into action! The good news is that with just a little planning and a few of your own ideas, you can have your craft room up and running in no time at all. It is not uncommon to have one’s ideas and creative juices unleashed, as a result of one’s decision to become better organized.

When you complete your project you will become the beneficiary of streamlined processes, enhanced organization, easier access to frequently used items, and simply put a more efficient use of your space. However, in order to take advantage of your craft room ideas you will need to have a plan. Like most, once you complete the project you will wonder why you had not considered the idea sooner.

The nice thing about storage containment is that there are an incredible number of storage units, wall units, storage racks, bins, shelving, drawers, jars, boxes and containers that will not only make the project fun, but a breeze to complete as well.

The first thing you will need to do is to determine where your craft room will be. Consider this thought; this is where you will spend the majority of your time when it comes to working on your craft(s) or hobby. In that light, you will want to select a location/room that not only makes sense, but one that is also easily accessible, and one that you feel comfortable in as well. If you select the wrong location, you may lose motivation. So, select the location wisely. And, be realistic about your expectations.

Once the location is defined, you will need to take stock of everything you need to store. For example, if you are a seamstress, or you consider sewing to be your craft, you will need to store the following: threads, sewing machine, needles, thimbles, materials and fabrics, lace, patterns, buttons, pinking shears, magazines, projects in progress, completed items, and so on, and so forth.

Then, measure the area or space you have available in the proposed room. This way you know exactly what size storage units you need, or, the limits of storage space you have in order to house all of your implements and tools. Next, you will need to classify or group things into general categories. This way you can store like items together, for efficiencies sake. Once you have your things broken down into a manageable number of  groups, then it is time to determine the specific type and size of storage container(s) you need, to fit the items for a given group. You simply do the same for each group. Consider using or borrowing a labeling device, for quick identification and visual simplicity of your storage system’s containers, so you know where everything is, at a glance.

When you are considering the viability of your storage system, and how your designed it for actual usage, you may also want to consider: what you use, how often you use it, and your physical access to it. If you are not sure if it’s the right configuration, go through the motions of your average day, and see what you would use, and how you would access it, to determine if the configuration you are considering makes sense. It’s never too late to rearrange things if the need arises.

Exploring your craft room storage ideas can be half the fun. Do not be afraid to tackle this project. You will be happy you did!
